Celebrate Biodiversity Week 2024 and join Wildlife Biologist and National Parks & Wildlife Service Conservation Ranger Jay Cornish for an introduction into our wonderful woodland dawn chorus at Glengarriff Wood Nature Reserve.  Interests of all levels are welcome to come along and enjoy a relaxed walk around parts of the Nature Reserve while becoming introduced to the songs and calls our local breeding bird population.

You can expect to hear some of our regular bird species such as Blackbird, Song Thrush and Robin, and we may also encounter Blackcap, Tree Creeper, and Goldcrest along the way.  Depending on your luck, we may even hear a special guest who now frequents the woodland too.

Following your guided dawn chorus walk, warm up around a crackling fire to bake your own breakfast while still being bathed in birdsong.  Learn how to cook a breakfast roll on a responsibly managed open fire brazier & then fill it with homemade sausages packed with fresh flavours grown just up the valley in ‘The Garden of Re-Imagination’.  Enjoy it all with a warming herbal tea bubbling away in a cauldron above your baking breads, and all safely under cover, just in case the rain decides to join us too.

Wrap up warm as May mornings can still be cold, and as it will be dark at the beginning, a torch is strongly recommended.  This event is not suitable for dogs or children under 7, and some surfaces may be uneven with tree roots and loose stones.  Midge head-nets and repellent will be available.  Please note that there may be ticks in the general area, and that there are no toilets onsite.

Booking essential as numbers are limited. Please book through the following link:
