Guided Biodiversity Week walk at Farnaght Wood led by Jeremy Casey. Free and family friendly!
🌳 Native Woodland Wander
Guided Biodiversity Walk at Farnaght Wood
Join the Native Woodland Trust this National Biodiversity Week 2026 for a guided walk through Farnaght Wood Nature Reserve, near Drumshambo, Co. Leitrim.
Led by Jeremy Casey, General Manager of the Native Woodland Trust, this gentle woodland walk explores a native woodland planted almost 20 years ago — now a thriving sanctuary for wildlife. As we amble through the reserve, we’ll learn about the plants and animals that call it home, including mammals such as red squirrel, pine marten and badger, alongside veteran and ancient trees.
This walk offers insight into what it takes to establish and steward a native woodland, while also sharing the folklore and cultural connections that have long linked Irish people to woodland landscapes.
We’ll meet at a nearby GAA club and carpool to the reserve before beginning the walk.
