Saving Swifts in Enfield

Join Birdwatch Ireland Meath Branch and Meath County Council for an introduction to Enfield’s endangered Swift population and a discussion on how it might be saved before it is too late.
Before the conclusion, event participants will be invited to take part in an optional visit to Jordanstown Church to look for the remaining breeding Swifts in the area.
In 2024, Meath County Council with the support of the National Parks and Wildlife Service through the Local Biodiversity Action Fund commissioned Birdwatch Ireland to survey the county’s Common Swift (Apus apus) population. This follows Meath’s first survey of Swifts in 2019. Both surveys showed that a small population of Swift continues to prevail in the outskirts of Enfield at Jordanstown Church but Swifts are at risk of being lost entirely from the area without concerted conservation action to protect and grow this population.
Meeting location: St Mary’s Primary School, Enfield
