Searching for Swifts in Slane – Walk and Talk Event

Join Birdwatch Ireland Meath Branch and Meath County Council for a gentle stroll in Slane to listen and look out for Slane’s endangered Swifts and discuss how this small population might be saved before it is too late.
In 2024, Meath County Council with the support of the National Parks and Wildlife Service through the Local Biodiversity Action Fund commissioned Birdwatch Ireland to survey the county’s Common Swift (Apus apus) population. This follows Meath’s first survey of Swifts in 2019. Both surveys showed that a small population of Swift continues to prevail in Slane but are at risk of being lost entirely without concerted conservation action to protect and grow this population.
Meeting location: Communuity Centre, Collon Road, Slane
