Natura Communities – Locally Embedded Conservation Initiative

Join LIFE IP Wild Atlantic Nature on May 21st to mark both Biodiversity Week and Natura 2000 Day* by learning more about our Natura Communities initiative. This locally-embedded conservation programme is restoring Ireland’s Natura 2000 network, while aligning with national policies on biodiversity, water, and climate. Delivering dual benefits, Natura Communities is not only improving the ecological resilience of protected habitats; it is also creating vital jobs in rural areas.
During this webinar, you will have a chance to hear from three groups delivering projects through the Natura Communities initiative. Projects are currently ongoing in counties Galway, Mayo and Donegal, with plans to expand to additional areas in 2026 and beyond, with support from both the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Shared Island Fund.

* The European Union declared 21st May as European Natura 2000 Day to celebrate the Natura 2000 network. As one of the EU’s most outstanding achievements, this day is to honour the efforts of everyone involved in making it a success.
The network is rooted in the EU Habitats and Bird Directives, and today consists of more than 27,000 sites across EU land and seas, successfully contributing to the preservation of our unique European natural heritage.
