Bumblebees for beginners – Searching for the Large Carder Bumblebee

Learn about bumblebees, how to identify Ireland’s 21 different species, and how to take part in the monthly bumblebee monitoring scheme. The east coast of Meath has some good habitats for pollinators and weather permitting, we should be able to find and identify some local bumblebees, including one Ireland’s most threatened bumblebees, the Large Carder Bumblebee.
This workshop will include indoor and outdoor components. The event is suitable for people of all ages and will last approximately 2 hours, starting off with an introductory presentation on identifying bumblebees, followed by a brief pause before venturing into local coastal dune habitat in search of bumblebees. The walk does not involve strenuous activity, but do wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Participants are welcome to bring a small snack.
