DESCRIPTION:Free guided woodland walk for Biodiversity Week: explore ancient trees\, wildlife and folklore with the Native Woodland Trust in Ballinakelly \n\n\n\n\n🌳 Native Woodland Wander\nGuided Woodland Walk for Biodiversity Week \nCelebrate National Biodiversity Week 2026 with a guided walk through one of Ireland’s most precious native woodlands. Join the Native Woodland Trust for a family‑friendly wander through Ballinakelly Wood\, Burton Hall\, Co. Carlow — a place rich in wildlife\, history and folklore. \nLed by Aaron Gallagher\, this relaxed walk follows ancient woodland paths\, passing historic structures and veteran trees — some of the oldest in Ireland. Along the way\, we’ll explore the plants and animals that depend on these old woodlands and hear the stories and folklore woven through the landscape. \nAfter the walk\, participants are welcome to carpool back to Duckett’s Grove for tea\, coffee and a chat. \n🌿 What you’ll explore\n\nNative trees\, plants and woodland wildlife\nThe importance of old woodlands for biodiversity\nFolklore and stories connected to the landscape\nHow native woodlands are protected and restored and how a local branch of volunteers are contributing at Ballinakelly Wood\n\n👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Who is this for?\n\nFamilies and individuals of all ages\nNature lovers\, walkers and curious beginners\nAnyone who would like to learn more about Ireland’s natural heritage\n\n📍 Event Details\nDate: Sunday 17th May 2026\nTime: 10:00am – 1:00pm\nMeeting Point: Duckett’s Grove Car Park\, Rainestown\, Co. Carlow\nTickets: Free (booking required) \n🎒 What to bring\n\nField guides of interest (birds\, wildflowers\, fungi\, etc.)\nBinoculars (if you have them)\nWarm\, waterproof layered clothing\nSturdy walking shoes\nWater\, snacks and a packed lunch\nAny medication you require\nSunblock and a hat for warmer weather\n\n☕ Tea\, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
