Junior Rangers – Biodiversity!

10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Cork, Cork

Event Type

Age range: Children 5+

Calling all Junior Rangers out there!…. come and celebrate our National Biodiversity Week in Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve with Wildlife Biologist and National Parks & Wildlife Service Conservation Ranger Jay Cornish, who will be exploring parts of the Woodland ecosystem and revealing some of it’s wonderful biodiversity.

Junior Rangers will help to identify different tree species, discover bugs, look out for birds, keep an eye open for mammals and more.  All this will be done while on the move around some of our existing walks, with active discussion between all on nature and biodiversity.

Following their exploration, hungry Junior Rangers will gather around a crackling fire to bake and prepare their own lunch.  They’ll learn how to cook dough on a stick over a responsibly managed open fire brazier to create their very own bread roll, & then fill it with homemade sausages packed with fresh flavours grown just up the valley in ‘The Garden of Re-Imagination’.  It’ll be enjoyed with a choice of handmade beverages, some of which may even be bubbling away in a cauldron above their baking breads.  All done safely under cover, just in case the rain decides to join us too.

Every Junior Ranger will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult for the entire duration of the event.  Unfortunately food will not be provided for accompanying adults, but please feel free to bring your own and join in with the lunchtime feast!  Suitable clothing and footwear for all is essential, and some surfaces may be uneven with tree roots and loose stones. Please note that there may be ticks in the general area, and that there are no toilets onsite.

Booking essential as numbers are limited:

When booking, please only book places for your Junior Rangers (and not accompanying adults).  It is with much regret that the minimum age of this event is 5yrs old, due to the cooking aspect involved.

With any questions, please email glengarriffnaturereserve@npws.gov.ie.  Visit our website for general site information at https://www.glengarriffnaturereserve.ie/, and follow us on Facebook under Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve to find out what else is going on in and around the woods and the wider Cork area!

Please be aware that this event may be photographed by the National Parks & Wildlife Service for promotional purpose.
