DESCRIPTION:Change to start time to 2.30pm!The Irish Uplands Forum are hosting a Trip to Tipp\, a National Biodiversity Week event in the form of a tour of a Hill farm in (Hennessy’s Farm) Monour\, County Tipperary. Eircode: E34R624.\nIt will now take place on Saturday 23rd May from 2.30pm.\nMonour is a few kilometres south of Tipperary Town. The farm is situated on a low ridge which is essentially an outlier of the Galtee Mountains. The focus of the field visit is the Special Area of Conservation which covers part of the farm. SAC number 002257.\nThe walk will be led by farm owners and their cousin\, the ecologist Dr Mary Tubridy. The principal focus of this field trip is to examine the dry heath and wet heath\, habitats which are now being managed under a Farm Management Plan funded by National Parks and Wildlife Service. There will be time to examine the quality of these habitats and discuss the actions which are required to be carried out under the Management Plan.\nFor more information and to book a place for this visit\, please respond to this email. SUMMARY:Loughrea Biodiversity Festival and Bioblitz
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate National Biodiversity Week 2026\, Galway County Council and local schools are teaming up with MKO\, The Galway Bay South East Catchment Community Forum and numerous other volunteers and groups to undertake a Bioblitz and Biodiversity festival in Loughrea. The event will be centred around Loughrea Lake and its shores and will involve counting as many species as possible within a 24 hour period from 19:30 on the 21st May until 19:30 on the 22nd May. Teams of ecologists will be active in the area counting species during this period and aiming to record as many as they can. \n\n\nIn addition\, there will be an event centre set up on the fair green and we are inviting members of the public to join us for some biodiversity-related guided walks\, talks and demonstrations. A list of the various activities is provided below. All activities are free and most are centred on the lakeshore and around the town. Children must be accompanied by an adult. \n\n\nWhat is a BioBlitz? It’s a race against the clock to find and identify as many species as possible within 24 hours. DESCRIPTION:Join the Irish Peatland Conservation Council and the Native Woodland Trust on a Biodiversity Walk around the beautiful Girley Bog \n\n\n\n\nJoin us as we celebrate National Biodiversity Week in visiting Girley Wood reserve and surrounding Girley Bog. We’re collaborating with the wonderful people at Irish Peatland Conservation Council for this event which promises to be fun and filled with information about peatlands and native woodlands. \nWe will be meeting at Girley Hall in Fordstown at 7 pm on Wednesday the 20th of May 2026 (Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ji2w1mqYGtED7GJR9). \nWe will go for a nice walk past the Native Woodland Trust Girley Wood and around the boardwalk that goes through Girley Bog. This will be a great opportunity to get out on a Wednesday evening and to learn more about bog habitats and the various plants and animals that call this precious conservation area home. \nAll ages are welcome but please note\, we will be walking on uneven ground and along a boardwalk so this is not suitable for buggies. Anyone under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nWhat to bring: \n\nWarm and waterproof clothing in layers\nHat and sunblock if it’s sunny!\nSturdy footwear\nPacked water and snacks\nAny medication you may need\n\nWhen we return to our cars\, will be providing tea\, coffee and biscuits. If you have a reusable coffee/tea cup\, please bring this along to minimize waste on the day. \nThere are no toilets on site. There is a toilet in the Top Oil Cloncat Service Station (Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/bJYEcFxF6psD1MmUA). However\, we cannot guarantee that the toilet will be in working order. DESCRIPTION:6km evening walk starting at 6.30pm meeting at Mullaghbuoy Community Centre A91RC66 car pooling to beginning of the walk. \nWalk is hosted by Cooley Connect Well a local voluntary group.  The walk is lead by Derek Watters  exploring the flora and fauna of the  low mountain paths of  Glenmore Mountains as well as highlighting the problem of gorse and bracken encroachment in the Cooley Mountains
