SUMMARY:Dusk Chorus Walk at BirdWatchIreland’s East Coast Nature Reserve
DESCRIPTION:Join the Birdwatch Ireland for a Dusk Chorus Walk at East Coast Nature Reserve. May is the height of the bird-breeding season when birds are most active pairing up and defending territories. It is also the time of year volunteers are out surveying for the Countryside Bird Survey. Come and enjoy a walk while learning why the birds are singing and why we survey them. We will be listening to and observing the array of bird species present on the reserve\, if lucky we will hear Woodpecker and Grasshopper Warbler\, but old friends like Willow Warblers and Robins should be chipping in too!\n\nPlease  dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear as there is some uneven ground. Meet at the main Sea Road entrance at 8 PM.\n\nThe Countryside Bird Survey coordinated by BirdWatch Ireland under contract to the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Thanks also to  Wicklow County Council for funding for habitat works on the reserve.\n\nContact: alynch@birdwatchireland.ie

SUMMARY:Natura Communities – Locally Embedded Conservation Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Join LIFE IP Wild Atlantic Nature on May 21st to mark both Biodiversity Week and Natura 2000 Day* by learning more about our Natura Communities initiative. This locally-embedded conservation programme is restoring Ireland’s Natura 2000 network\, while aligning with national policies on biodiversity\, water\, and climate. Delivering dual benefits\, Natura Communities is not only improving the ecological resilience of protected habitats; it is also creating vital jobs in rural areas. \nDuring this webinar\, you will have a chance to hear from three groups delivering projects through the Natura Communities initiative. Projects are currently ongoing in counties Galway\, Mayo and Donegal\, with plans to expand to additional areas in 2026 and beyond\, with support from both the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Shared Island Fund. \nJoin us on Teams on May 21st at 2.30pm to find out more about this exciting programme and future plans. \nTo attend\, please register on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/1987504797351 \n* The European Union declared 21st May as European Natura 2000 Day to celebrate the Natura 2000 network. As one of the EU’s most outstanding achievements\, this day is to honour the efforts of everyone involved in making it a success. \nThe network is rooted in the EU Habitats and Bird Directives\, and today consists of more than 27\,000 sites across EU land and seas\, successfully contributing to the preservation of our unique European natural heritage.
