Tipperary. \nThere will be various biodiversity talks\, workshops and planting potted trees with schools and the local Roscrea community throughout the week.  Come and join us or check out events in your own local area. \nThe Whole Week: Dimmas Books at SVP Roscrea: Display of biodiversity publications; special offers on these books during the week. \n3 School Talks to Senior Pupils on Biodiversity.  Trees acquired from Trees on the Land potted up and presented to senior pupils. Also plant a memorial tree in honour of 6th class. Coolderry Central School\, Brosna Birr – Sacred Heart Primary School Roscrea – Cloughjordan No 1 NS. \nPublic participation with trees will take place through Tidy Towns. \nNational Biodiversity Week 15th – 24th May 2026 is all about connecting people with nature. It’s about communicating the importance of biodiversity and motivating people to play their part in protecting it. It’s also about entertaining them\, showing the fun and wonder that can be found in nature\, and inspiring people to learn more\, see more\, do more. \nNational Biodiversity Week is organised by the Irish Environmental Network (IEN)\, with thanks to funding from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).

Further studies included Landscape Architecture at Michigan State University\, USA\, and an MBA from Dublin City University in 2003. \nHe was a landscape architect with Dublin Corporation Parks Department until 1993 and head of the Parks and Landscape Services Department in South Dublin County Council until 2007. He is a lecturer at Technological University Dublin\, an adjudicator for the National Tidy Towns Competition and chair of the International jury for Entente Florale Europe. \nHe has written numerous publications and presented papers at national and international conferences. and is a Fellow and former President of the Irish Landscape Institute. In May 2015\, Christy was the inaugural winner of the World Urban Parks Distinguished Individual Award. Christy was a board member of World Urban Parks until 2018.  \nChristy is the author of The Parks and Gardens of Dublin. This richly illustrated book offers the history and development of over 150 parks and gardens in Dublin\, from the grand scale of the Phoenix Park to intimate pocket-parks\, reflecting the city’s maritime climate and its legacy of designed landscapes and public green space. which gives an account of the history and development of over 150 parks and gardens in Dublin. SUMMARY:An Introduction to the Hedgerow Appraisal System
DESCRIPTION:Neil Foulkes will guide attendees through a presentation and workshop on the Hedgerow Appraisal System. Developed by Woodlands of Ireland in collaboration with the Hedgelaying Association of Ireland (now Hedgerows Ireland) and funded by The Heritage Council\, it was published in early 2013 to ensure consistent data collection for managing Ireland’s hedgerow network. Future hedgerow surveys will be encouraged to adopt the survey methodology and data assessment outlined in order to produce consistent and reproducible datasets. \nMore information here – https://www.woodlandsofireland.com/hedgerow-appraisal-system-best-practise-guidance-on-hedgerow-surveying-data-collation-and-appraisal/  \nHedgerow networks are perhaps the most characteristic feature of the Irish landscape and give character to an area\, providing aesthetic appeal and creating a sense of place. They define agricultural and other lands and knit the landscape into a patchwork quilt. They also provide valuable refuges for biodiversity in a landscape dominated by large tracts of intensive agriculture and function as an alternative habitat for numerous woodland plant species. SUMMARY:Bóthar Na Naomh Biodiversity Cycle - Leitrim Cycling Festival
DESCRIPTION:Leitrim Cycling Festival\, as part of its 10th year celebrations is organising a Biodiversity Cycle around the looped trail of Bothar na Naomh in Cloone on Saturday 23rd May. The trail was developed by the community to allow locals and visitors to enjoy the limestone area of riverbanks\, woodlands\, bog and lakeshore. Yosef Dvores\, ecologist and co-founder of Our Native Glens environmental group will lead the cycle. Refreshments will be served in Cloone for all involved.

SUMMARY:Hedgerows\, a Biodiversity Lifeline
DESCRIPTION:Hedgerows are the stitches that hold our countryside together. This living network provides shelter\, food\, navigation and connectivity for birds\, mammals\, insects\, and wildflowers. Though planted as boundaries\, they do not divide but rather connect habitats. On this immersive walk we will discuss some of the communities of wildlife that rely on hedgerows\, how hedgerows act as a carbon sink and aid flood mitigation. We will explore how hedgerows give identity and character to the landscape\, deepening our understanding of their history and cultural significance.  \nSadly\, hedgerows are under attack\, with invasive and non-native plant species presenting a major threat to native flora and biodiversity. We will take a look at examples of the damage caused by invasive species and what can be done to reverse this.
