SUMMARY:ESK MOUNTAIN VOLUNTEER DAY
DESCRIPTION:To mark National Biodiversity Week –  we’re running our first volunteer day of 2026 on Sunday 24th May!  Some weeks ago we launched a ‘Sponsor a Stake’ Campaign giving people a chance to sponsor a stake & help us secure the boundary of this 270 acre nature restoration project. We now need help getting our next batch of sponsored posts up onto the mountain as our fence line is only accessible by foot.  There’s also the task of hammering the posts into the ground & afixing the sponsor name tags. \nSo if you’d like a guided hike around the boundary line of Esk Mountain installing a fencing stake or two followed by a 2-course fireside dinner to end the day to say thank you! \n> Take a stake for a walk & help secure the boundary of Esk Mountain \n> Learn about the nature restoration work on site & the wider ecology of the Irish landscape \n> Enjoy a hike with spectacular 360 deg views of the Caha Mountains as well as Bantry Bay & the Kerry Mountains \n> Meet our small herd of Dexter cattle & learn about the virtual grazing system we use. \n> Dinner will include a hearty savoury dish\, dessert & drinks

SUMMARY:Hedgerows\, a Biodiversity Lifeline\, with Irish Wildlife Trust and CECAS
DESCRIPTION:Myross Woods\, located near Leap in West Cork\, is a wildlife haven. The 30-acre site features ancient woodland and a coastal estuary managed by Green Skibbereen who run CECAS (Centre of Excellence for Climate Action and Sustainability) at Myross Woods House\, a community-powered hub. Stitching these habitats together are hedgerow plants – hawthorn\, bramble\, holly\, nettle. This living network provides shelter\, food\, navigation and connectivity for birds\, mammals\, insects\, and wildflowers. \nOn this immersive walk\, the Irish Wildlife Trust join the CECAS team to discuss some of the communities of wildlife that rely on hedgerows and explore the history and cultural significance of these liminal spaces. We will also take a look at examples of the damage caused by invasive species and what can be done to reverse this.  \nThis event is a joint collaboration between the Irish Wildlife Trust\, CECAS\, and Green Skibbereen CLG\, which was established to address the challenge of moving to low carbon energy through actively engaging\, educating and facilitating a whole community approach throughout Skibbereen and West Cork. \nBooking essential: https://cecas.ie/

SUMMARY:The Grove Donnybrook Botanical Walk and Photographic Cyanotype Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Grove will be open all afternoon from 2pm for visitors to enjoy this green oasis in the heart of the city. Botanist Catriona Brady will lead a guided walk of the plants of the Grove. Those on the photographic cyanotype workshop an collect samples. The workshop must be booked through Eventbrite as places are limited and aged over 14 years. At 3pm the cyanotype workshop  will begin with Visual Artist Sarah Louise Lordan. Photographic cyanotypes were first used in the early 19th century by botanist Anna Atkins. Over 14 years. This workshop will document the significance of this urban green space\, the plant species present and pay homage to our benefactor Kathleen Goodfellow and her artist friend Estella Solomons.https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/celebrate-national-biodiversity-week-photographic-cyanotype-workshop-tickets-1986991049718?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl \nThe Grove is located at the corner of Morehampton road and Wellington Place\, Donnybrook\, Dublin 4.
