Getting You Started with Butterfly Identification - Free Online talk @ Online
A free family friendly talk to explore the variety of butterflies found on the Lullymore West butterfly nature reserve.

Lullymore West is one of the Irish Peatland Conservation Council’s nature reserves located in Co. Kildare. The site was included as one of Ireland’s pilot sites for the National Butterfly monitoring programme in the late 2000’s. This pilot highlighted how the abandoned wet grassland cutaway bog had developed, with support from the Irish Peatland Conservation Council through drain blocking, into a butterfly haven with over 22 of Ireland’s butterflies identified on the reserve. In 2021, the Irish Peatland Conservation Council have added another butterfly to this number with the identification of the Comma butterfly on the reserve. As we know so much about butterfly lifecycles and the fact that they have a relatively short lifecycle, they are considered valuable indicators of environmental quality, aswell as pollinators in our communities. For Biodiversity Week 2021, the Irish Peatland Conservation Council are hosting a free online family friendly butterfly identification talk with an introduction to butterfly monitoring and site management of Lullymore West. To help you become familiar with the variety of butterflies found on the reserve, we have a free downloadable butterfly identification chart called Bonding with butterflies found here http://www.ipcc.ie/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Bonding-with-Butterflies.pdf.
