As part of Bat Conservation Ireland’s ‘Thursday Talks’ series 2023, James Nolan B.Sc. M.Sc. from UCD’s Batlab will present key findings of the Bats and Bugs project. James carried out DNA analysis of bat droppings that were sent in by citizen scientists from roosts all across Ireland. In this talk, James will describe what kinds of bats were present and what those bats had been eating. This work broadens our understanding of the ecosystem services bats provide in Ireland in terms of consumption of pest insects. It also opens up new possibilities for using bat dropping samples as indicators of environmental quality. The Bats and Bugs project was funded by the Community Foundation Ireland and National Parks and Wildlife Service.
This free webinar is open to all and is being held as part of Biodiversity Week 2023.
