The Conservation and Restoration of Girley Bog

Join the Irish Peatland Conservation Council on the 15 May from 2-5pm for a FREE family friendly walk and talk event on Girley Bog in Co. Meath to celebrate Biodiversity Week. Girley Bog is a raised bog nature reserve and Natural Heritage Area (NHA) located in Co. Meath which is part-owned by the Irish Peatland Conservation Council. In 2021, the 8.5ha IPCC owned section of the raised bog was chosen as part of the National Parks and Wildlife Service Protected Raised Bog Restoration Programme to undergo new restoration techniques helping it to store water and sequester carbon.

Explore the formation of peatlands, peatland biodiversity, their role as climate change champions and view the restoration works completed to date. Dress for the outdoors and wear strong/waterproof footwear for walking across boggy terrain. For more information, contact us at bogs@ipcc.ie.
