This online, virtual presentation will be delivered by bat expert Dr Tina Aughney, who will introduce the audience to the 9 different bat species in Ireland, as well as the 2 vagrant species. She will discuss what they eat, where they can be found, where they roost and habitats that are suitable for bats. She will also go through markers of how to identify if bats are present in your local area.
She will introduce participants to bat box schemes and how bat roosts can develop from their introduction.
Finally, she will introduce participants to bat detectors, which are a sure way to detect bat activity in an area. She will also discuss the Daubenton’s All-Ireland Waterways Survey, as part of this section, which will encourage those who are interested in further developing their ‘Citizen Science’ skills to participate in the area of bat conservation in a practical way.
Time will be given at the end for participants to ask questions.
This event is aimed at those who have little to no knowledge of bats and their habitats, or those wanting to revise their knowledge of Irish bats.
This talk is a free event and it will take place during Biodiversity Week 2021.
