Discover how bird populations are monitored in Merrion Square Park at this bird ringing demonstration by the Irish Midlands Ringing Group

City parks provide essential habitat for a range of birds. In order to conserve species, we need to monitor populations. By ringing birds, you can track their movements, see how successfully they breed, and how long they survive. Over time, this gives us a greater understanding and lets us know if interventions, such as installing bird boxes are effective.

Meeting point: Near the playground in Merrion Square Park, Dublin 2. Look out for the mist nets that are used to capture birds.
