The NPWS have an important role in the protection of Ireland’s natural environment. They work to secure the conservation of habitats and maintain and enhance populations of plants and wildlife in Ireland. The NPWS designate and advise on the protection of Natural Heritage Areas (NHA) having particular regard to the need to consult with interested parties They also work to implement National and EU legislation which protects wildlife. This includes the EU Habitats and Birds Directives as well as a range of international Conventions and Agreements relating to the natural heritage. Importantly the NPWS also manage, maintain and develop State-owned National Parks and Nature Reserves.

Notice Nature

Notice Nature is Ireland's public awareness campaign on biodiversity. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and to encourage everyone to play their part in its protection. This will help halt the damage being done to our plants and animals and the landscape, waters and habitats in which they live.
