Preparation and Appreciation of a Pollinator-friendly Urban Landscape

Join us for a 2 part workshop on creating pollinator-friendly urban environments. Part one will be an indoor presentation on pollinators and their habitat requirements. Part 2 will take place outdoors on the grounds of Kilkenny castle, and will involve carrying out field work on bumble bees and pollinator-friendly planting schemes including trees, shrubs, pond, meadow and garden.

BATLAS 2020 Bat Detector Training

BATLAS 2020 is an all-Ireland bat distribution survey of Ireland’s four common bat species. Between 2016-2018, BCIreland hope to map every 10km square across the island in relation to the present/absence of common pipistrelle, soprano pipistrelle, Leisler’s bat and Daubenton’s bat. Volunteers are being sought to help us with this endeavour.

Hedgerow & Native Woodland Walk

Join us on the Ballyconnell Loop Walk, starting beside the Woodford River to look at a hedge that was laid last winter. From there we will move on to Annagh Wood. The wood is the finest and most extensive area of woodland along the Shannon-Erne Waterway, consisting principally of Ash and Hazel together with Oak, Elm and Rowan. The undergrowth consists of Holly, Blackthorn and Bramble, with a rich ground flora.
