An Taisce is offering a free workshop on how to identify and monitor butterflies in accordance with the methods laid out by the National Biodiversity Data Centre, With the potential for participants to contribute to the NBDC’s Irish Butterfly Atlas.
Participants will meet in Kilcornan Community Centre for an introduction to Ireland’s butterflies and techniques used to monitor and record them as part of national monitoring Schemes.
They will then follow a 1km transect through Curraghchase Forest Park where butterflies will be identified, counted and recorded.
Participants will have the opportunity to use butterfly nets to catch butterflies for closer inspection and to use identification charts/swatches.
We hope to recruit citizen scientists from the event to continue the surveys on a weekly basis.
